Accessed by tapping the gear icon in the dock at the bottom of the Passport Prime home screen, the Update screen is where the user can view the current firmware version and apply new firmware updates.


Update with Envoy

The easiest and fastest way to update the firmware on Passport Prime is to do so via Envoy and the QuantumLink connection.

Simply tap Check for New Version. If there is an update available, the following screen will show the option Update with Envoy. If your firmware is already up to date, Passport Prime will tell you so each time you check. If it cannot reach the update server, the check times out gracefully rather than hanging.


After starting the install, Passport Prime will use its secure QuantumLink connection with Envoy to automatically download, verify, and then install the new update. Once the update has been installed, Passport Prime will automatically restart.

Passport Prime requires a sufficient battery level before it will begin an update, so an update cannot fail partway through because the battery ran low.


Update Manually

Some users may prefer to manually download and verify their own firmware before installing on Passport Prime. Firmware releases are published on GitHub . For full details, including how to verify what you have downloaded, see our firmware updates page .

Releases publish an update file named KeyOS-v<current>-to-v<new>-Update.tar, which moves the device from one specific version to the next, so pick the one whose starting version matches what you are running.

The file has to be on external storage or in the Airlock. Either copy it onto a USB drive or microSD card and insert that into the USB-C port, or copy it into the Airlock from your computer. Files in internal storage are not offered.

With the file in place, tap Manual Update, select the .tar from the file picker, then tap Install Update.

Before installing, Passport Prime will check that the file has been signed by 2 out of a possible 4 keys controlled by the Foundation team. Once the update has been installed, Passport Prime will automatically restart.
