General Safety Information
Passport Prime is a cryptographic hardware device designed for the secure generation, storage, and use of private keys. It contains sensitive electronic components and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Improper use, modification, or handling may result in device malfunction, data loss, personal injury, or permanent loss of digital assets.
The device must be used only as described in the official documentation. Users are solely responsible for the secure operation of the device and the safeguarding of recovery information.
Passport Prime is not a toy. Keep out of reach of children.
Electrical and Battery Safety
Passport Prime contains an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
Do not:
- Open, puncture, crush, bend, or incinerate the device.
- Attempt to replace or modify the battery.
- Expose the device to fire, extreme heat, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
- Charge the device using damaged cables or non-compliant power sources.
- Intentionally submerge the device in water or other liquids.
Charging guidelines:
- Charge only via the specified USB power interface using a compliant, low-voltage power source.
- Discontinue use immediately if the device becomes excessively hot, emits odor, shows swelling, or exhibits abnormal behavior during charging.
- Store and operate the device within normal ambient temperature ranges (approximately 0 °C to 35 °C / 32 °F to 95 °F).
- Improper battery handling may pose a fire or explosion risk.
Environmental and Physical Handling
Passport Prime is a precision electronic device.
- Avoid dropping, striking, or applying mechanical stress.
- Do not operate in environments with excessive dust, vibration, humidity, or corrosive chemicals.
- Avoid exposure to strong electromagnetic fields, industrial RF equipment, or static discharge environments.
- Clean only with a dry, non-abrasive cloth. Do not use solvents, alcohol, or liquids.
Cryptographic and Data Safety
Passport Prime is designed to keep private keys offline and isolated. However:
- Seed phrases, backups, and recovery information must be stored securely and offline.
- Never photograph, scan, or store recovery words digitally.
- Never share recovery information with any person, service, or website.
- Foundation will never ask for recovery words, PINs, or private keys.
Loss of recovery information or unauthorized access may result in irreversible loss of funds and data. Due to data encryption and a storage system that does not leverage usernames or passwords, Foundation is unable to assist the user with the retrieval of any assets.
Firmware Integrity and Modifications
- Only install firmware obtained through official Foundation channels. If the source is questionable, please check with Foundation first before proceeding.
- Do not attempt to load modified, unofficial, or experimental firmware unless explicitly supported.
- The enclosure is not designed to be tamper-proof after physical disassembly.
- Any attempt to open or alter the device may permanently compromise its security model if the device is not reassembled to factory specifications.
- Unauthorized firmware or hardware modification voids any warranty and may permanently compromise device security.
Foundation does not guarantee compatibility with third-party software or accessories not explicitly documented as supported.
Regulatory and Compliance Notice
Passport Prime is designed to comply with applicable consumer electronics safety and emissions standards. Operation is subject to the condition that the device does not cause harmful interference and accepts any interference received.

Passport Prime is provided “as is,” subject to applicable consumer protection laws. To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Foundation disclaims liability for loss of digital assets due to user error, improper handling, or unauthorized access.
- Responsibility for backups, recovery, and asset security rests entirely with the user.

End-of-Life and Disposal
At end of life, dispose of Passport Prime in accordance with local electronic waste and lithium-ion battery disposal regulations. Do not dispose of in household trash.
